Federal Treasurer Peter Costello has called on Islamic societies to disconnect church from state.

Mr Costello has said Islamic states should adopt a secular view free of all religion, in an address to the Australian Christian Lobby at a Christian Conference in Canberra today.

He also says Muslim societies should allow robust debate, after reaction to comments made last week by Pope Benedict XVI that sparked outrage across the Islamic world.

"How can one religion exercise the freedom to speak on its values, its faith, without prompting a violent response from other religions?" Mr Costello said.

"It can only happen where we all accept a set of rules, the right to freedom of speech without receiving violence in return."

Mr Costello says separating religion from government allows religious freedom.

"Now, I have argued that separation of church and state is good for both and further consistent with Christ's teaching," he said.

"I believe that a secular, national state can be adopted by Muslim societies and what is more, in doing so, will lead to greater technological and economic progress."

The federal Opposition says Mr Costello should not be making comments on international politics. Labor's treasury spokesman Wayne Swan says Mr Costello should leave the political comments to Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer.

But Australian Christian Lobby managing director Jim Wallace says Mr Costello was merely expressing his views.

"We've got to be free to say what we believe and to criticise, if necessary, any ideology or faith," he said.

"I think it doesn't help for us to allow ourselves to be intimidated into either silence or denial about the reality of ideologies or faiths that are out there."

Last week in Germany, the pope quoted a medieval text that characterized some of the teachings of Islam's founder as "evil and inhuman" and referred to spreading Islam "by the sword."

The "Pope, and all Infidels, should know that no Muslim, under any circumstances, can tolerate an insult to the Prophet (Muhammad).... If the West does not change its stance regarding Islam, it will face severe consequences," Pakistani clerics said. Sept 21.

A leaflet issued by militants on Tuesday threatened to "target all Crusaders [a term frequently employed by Muslim Arabs to denote Christians] in the Gaza Strip until the pope issues an official apology."

Calling themselves "The Army of Guidance," the group announced that "all centers belonging to Crusaders, including churches and institutions, will from now on be targeted. We will even attack the Crusaders as they sit intoxicated in their homes." Sept 19

Sheikh Abubakar Hassan Malin told worshippers at his mosque to hunt down and kill whoever offended the Prophet Mohammed. Sept 15.

Gunmen have shot dead a 65-year-old Italian nun and her bodyguard at a hospital in Somali capital, Mogadishu. The attackers shot the nun three times in the back at the women and children's hospital in the south of the city before fleeing the scene. Sept 18.

Sounds like the Pope's quote of a 14th Century Christian emperor's comments were right on the mark. No wonder Muzzie has is panties in a wad.

The war against terrorism, instead of simmering with occasional flare-ups, like the Cold War, would have boiled over into a global conflagration, with the Muslim countries of the world—1.2 billion strong—mobilizing against America and the West.

Muslim apologists also rushed forward to assure the public that Islam was a peaceful religion. They disingenuously declared that the word Islam means "peace." And they tried to portray the terrorists as a fringe group outside the mainstream of Islam.

These were lies.

For the past two weeks, Patrick Sookhdeo has been canvassing the opinions of Muslim clerics in Britain on the row over the cartoons featuring images of Mohammed that were first published in Denmark and then reprinted in several other European countries.

"They think they have won the debate," he says with a sigh. "They believe that the British Government has capitulated to them, because it feared the consequences if it did not.

"The cartoons, you see, have not been published in this country, and the Government has been very critical of those countries in which they were published. To many of the Islamic clerics, that's a clear victory.

"It's confirmation of what they believe to be a familiar pattern: if spokesmen for British Muslims threaten what they call 'adverse consequences' - violence to the rest of us - then the British Government will cave in. I think it is a very dangerous precedent."

Dr Sookhdeo adds that he believes that "in a decade, you will see parts of English cities which are controlled by Muslim clerics and which follow, not the common law, but aspects of Muslim sharia law.

Three ladies in prison (an appeal)

I implore anyone who can read this to give it wider coverage by reproducing it on their blog.

This is the tale of three ladies you will never hear of in the west. They are not powerful, not rich, not influential and certainly not famous. They sit in jail today. Their crime? Caring about their communities.

Rebeka Zakaria, Eti Pangesti and Ratna Bangun were sentenced to three years of prison each.

In 2003, the local school allowed those of minority religions to instruct their children in the way of their respective religions. These three women, without funding, without much in the way of resources started a Christian program named Happy Sunday. Several Muslim children started to attend.

Islamic leaders became alarmed that their own children were attending Happy Sunday. One particular Muslim leader became alarmed when he realised that his own children were singing songs they had learnt at Happy Sunday. Somehow the Muslim songs had little traction with the kids. Clearly their children would not listen to them, so they went to the courts.

The local Jihad groups literally went to town and filled the court house with head banded supporters carrying banners spewing all kinds of threats. They laid six coffins outside the court, three for the women and the other three for the judges, should they return unfavourable verdicts.

The three women now are in prison. Please remember them in your prayers. Please also remember their own children who miss their mothers greatly, mothers who have done nothing more than to care about the upbringing of their children and who opened their hearts to the children of their neighbours.

God has his own plans but meanwhile we can continue to encourage these three women via the letter writing campaign.

A per the standard rule of writing to prisoners of conscience:

Do not mention any organisations you are affiliated to.

Do not say anything negative about the government of Indonesia or Islam, they already know that they are evil so you don't need to tell them.

Be encouraging, if you have a verse from the bible write it in. Often prisoners are not allowed bibles or reading materials. Your verse may be the only reading material they get. This is not Guantanamo, it's real prison in a real Muslim country.

Postcards and greeting cards are best. Good idea: Buy a stack of postcards and get the children in your pre-school, sunday school etc to fill them out. Artwork would be great too. You can ask them to pray along too.

Tell them what country you are writing from but do not include your address
* Please do not send money or gifts. What they need most is your encouragement. Besides, the country is corrupt.

U.S. soldiers face action over Afghan body burnings

(CNN) -- Two U.S. soldiers based in Afghanistan will face non-judicial disciplinary action in connection with the burning of the bodies of "two Islamic militants," according to a U.S. Central Command official.

Lt. Col. Laurent Fox said on Saturday that two other soldiers working in "psychological operations" will face similar punishment for making unauthorized broadcasts.

In the incident, which occurred last month, two soldiers burned the bodies and two soldiers broadcast a propaganda message taunting Taliban fighters.

A Saturday press conference in Afghanistan disclosed the military reaction to the incident.

The military says the soldiers burned the bodies for hygienic reasons and the broadcasting was unauthorized.

But the burnings are being regarded as a form of desecration because the Muslim faith forbids the burning of bodies. Afghanistan is a Muslim country.

Unless, of course, they are kafir bodies.

There are no "Islamic countries" in the world today, only countries with Muslim majorities. Not one country in the world today is run in an Islamic manner, not even close.

I agree that rights should be afforded to all, whether it is in the Middle East or the West. Time for the West to put their money where their mouths are, let the immigrants and their families integrate. Most of these people were born and raised in France anyway, so when are we going to stop calling them immigrants? And time for the West, especially the USA, to stop support the dictators in the Middle East.

Last time I checked Italians were white, and didnt have much of a real culture....so it didnt take long for them to "integrate." This was a 100 years ago, the world today is a much smaller place. If you europeans dont want to do your own work or have babies, you have only yourselves to blame not the immigrants you allowed in. On top of that if you mistreat people immigrant or otherwise, chances are they're going to start protesting. Enough excuses and racism already.

As you may guess, for the third year running, our brothers in Iraq have been leading the field in sheer numbers; they scored 6 dead policemen and 12 injured civilians on Friday alone. However, as you know, they are subject to a referee's enquiry for having excessive foreign players in the squad. It is alleged that they have been bringing in too many players from Saudi Arabia, above the quota, but the investigation is taking a long time because, apart from Ahmad here, the evidence is just scattered far and wide.

But it's the previous outsiders of the competition who are getting all the attention! Yes, our brothers in France have been at it for 10 straight nights on the run! They've been putting in a lot of effort in training camp, and they are now showing their stamina! It's not just our brothers in Paris, either. The action is spreading to other cities like Toulouse and Nantes, more than 900 cars have been torched, so they're not far off that magic 1000! Way to go, guys! I particularly enjoyed this:

That'll show the Kuffar what we think of their so-called "environmentalism"! That'll probably upset them more than burning all those cars and the woman in the wheelchair!

Well, sadly, the general is dead, but his inspiration lives on. These guys are now into piracy. Piracy used to be an unbeliever thing, in the days of Protestant England and Catholic Spain. But now, off the north east coast of Africa, and in the seas between Malaysia and Indonesia, piracy has definitely become a Muslim Thing. (National Review Online) -- It’s past time that we quit worrying whether a killer who blows himself up on the West Bank, or a terrorist who shouts the accustomed jihadist gibberish as he crashes a jumbo jet into the World Trade Center, or a driver who rams his explosives-laden car into an Iraqi polling station, or a Chechnyan rebel who blows the heads off schoolchildren, is in daily e-mail contact with Osama bin Laden. Our present lax attitude toward jihadism is akin to deeming local outbreaks of avian flu as regional maladies without much connection to a new strain of a deadly — and global — virus.

Instead, the world — if it is to save its present liberal system of free trade, safe travel, easy and unfettered communications, and growing commitment to constitutional government — must begin seeing radical Islamism as a universal pathology rather than reactions to regional grievances, if it is ever to destroy it materially and refute it ideologically.

Yet the antidote for radical Islam, aside from the promotion of democratization and open economies, is simple. It must be militarily defeated when it emerges to wage organized violence, as in the cases of the Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan, Zarqawi’s terrorists in Iraq, and the various killer cliques in Palestine.

Second, any who tolerate radical Islam should be ostracized. Muslims living in the West must be condemned when they assert that the Jews caused 9/11, or that suicide bombing is a legitimate response to Israel, or that Islamic immigrants’ own unique culture gives them a pass from accustomed assimilation, or that racial and religious affinity should allow tolerance for the hatred that spews forth from madrassas and mosques — before the patience of Western liberalism is exhausted and “the rules of the game” in Tony Blair’s words “change” quite radically and we begin to see mass invitations to leave.

Third, nations that intrigue with jihadists must be identified as the enemies of civilization. We often forget that there are now left only four major nation-states in the world that either by intent or indifference allow radical Islamists to find sanctuary.

France Facing 'Horrendous' Balance Sheet

Paris (The New York Sun) -- A curfew was set up yesterday at Le Raincy, a neighborhood in the eastern suburbs of Paris. The order was issued by the local conservative mayor, Eric Raoult. The prime minister, Dominique de Villepin, made clear on television that similar measures might soon be enforced on a broader scale. "Restoring public safety is our top priority," he said. After 11 days and nights of rioting, the country was coming close to a civil war.

A map published in the afternoon by Le Monde showed that ethnic violence - the "French Intifada," as it is being referred to by some journalists and political leaders - had spread almost all over the country, with the exception of Inner Brittany, western Normandy, and Burgundy, where North African and black communities are small, and Corsica, where a large North African community is held in check by a local nationalist movement that itself is prone to violence. Most major cities, including Lyons, Marseille, Lille, Toulouse, and Bordeaux, have been hit.

Rioting and guerrilla-style street fighting were still rampant in the northern Parisian county of Seine-Saint-Denis - colloquially known as 9-3, after its postal code - where the whole thing started on October 27. The five other Parisian counties were hurt as well. The inner city itself, the ultra-chic City of Paris, was subjected to several ethnic raids over the weekend.

In terms of destruction and casualties, the balance sheet is horrendous. Between Sunday and Monday night, no fewer than 1,408 cars, including buses and trucks, were torched throughout the country. Schools, colleges, sports facilities, factories, shopping arcades, and even two churches - one in Lens, in the north, and one in Sete, on the Mediterranean - were burned. A local resident who attempted to stop a fire was beaten to death in Stains. Elsewhere, a disabled woman narrowly escaped being burned alive in a torched bus. Dozens of firefighters were wounded.

CITY (Mehr News Agency) -- TEHRAN, Nov. 6 (MNA) — Iran’s Association of Muslim Journalists (AMJ) issued a statement on Sunday condemning the violation of Muslims’ civil rights in France and calling on the French government to cooperate with them in establishing a fact-finding commission in order to investigate the conditions of French Muslims. The AMJ said that the mistreatment of Black French Muslims over the past two weeks has deeply influenced Iranian public opinion.

“We suppose that the French government has carried out the recent discriminatory and anti-human rights acts under the influence of the Zionist lobby in France to limit the social and personal freedoms of the Muslims residing in the country, which is quite unacceptable on the part of a country that claims to be democratic,” part of the statement read.

“The rough treatment of Black people whose countries were colonized by France for decades shows that colonialism is still dominant in the policies and the thoughts of the officials of France, who claim to uphold freedom and patience.

“The Association of Muslim Journalists wishes to express its protest about the organized suppression of poor Muslims residing in the suburbs of Paris, who have been living as second-class citizens and deprived of social and political rights for many years.

“Therefore, the Association of Muslim Journalists, as a non-governmental organization, seeks to establish a fact-finding commission to study the situation of Black Muslims in France and hopes that the French government will cooperate by granting them visas.”

Three Christian girls beheaded in Indonesia

Poso, Indonesia (JihadWatch) -- Three girls have been beheaded and another badly injured as they walked to a Christian school in Indonesia.

They were walking through a cocoa plantation near the city of Poso in central Sulawesi province when they were attacked.

This is an area that has a long history of religious violence between Muslims and Christians....

Police say the heads were found some distance from the bodies.

It is unclear what was behind the attack, but the girls attended a private Christian school and one of the heads was left outside a church leading to speculation that it might have had a religious motive.

(Newsroom 2005) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday that Israel should be "wiped off the map".

The Islamic Republic officially refuses to recognise Israel's right to exist.

The official IRNA news agency reported that President Ahmadinejad told a conference called "The World without Zionism" that "Israel must be wiped off the map".

The conference was attended by 3,000 students who chanted "Death to Israel" and "Death to America".

President Ahmadinejad, a former member of the hardline Revolutionary Guards and traditional religious conservative, said there could be no let-up in hostility to Israel.

He said: "The Islamic world will not let its historic enemy live in its heartland".

Saudi author Badriyya Al-Bishr, a lecturer in social sciences at King Saud University, recently published an article titled "Imagine You're a Woman" in the London Arabic-language daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat.

"Imagine you're a woman. When your brother is born, people say: 'It's a boy, how wonderful,' and when you are born they say: 'How wonderful, it's a little girl' – using the diminutive form. [2] Your arrival is welcome if [you are] the first or second girl, but it's best if there are no more than two, so that nothing undesirable happens to the mother. On the other hand, your brothers' arrivals are welcomed – the more the merrier.

"Imagine you're a woman. You always need your guardian's approval, not only regarding your first marriage, as maintained by the Islamic legal scholars, but regarding each and every matter. You cannot study without your guardian's approval, even if you reach a doctorate level. You cannot get a job and earn a living without your guardian's approval. Moreover, there are people who are not ashamed to say that a woman must have permission to work even in the private sector.

"Imagine you're a woman, and the guardian who must accompany you wherever [you go] is your 15-year-old son or your brother, who scratches his chin before giving his approval, saying: 'What do you think, guys, should I give her my permission?' Sometimes he asks for... a bribe [in return], heaven forbid! [But] your brother avoids taking such a bribe in 'cash' because his self-respect prevents him from touching a woman's money. So he prefers the bribe to be a car, a fridge, or an assurance of money that you will pay in installments [for him], until Allah gets him out of his financial straits...

"Imagine you're a woman, and you are subject to assault, beatings, or murder. When the press publishes your photo [together with] the photo of the criminals and [descriptions] of their brutality, there are people who ask: 'Was the victim covered [by a veil] or not?' If she was covered up, [the question arises:] 'Who let her go out of the house at such an hour?' In the event that your husband is the one who broke your ribs, [people will say] that no doubt there was good reason for it.

"Imagine you're a woman whose husband breaks her nose, arm, or leg, and you go to the Qadi to lodge a complaint. When the Qadi asks you about your complaint, and you say, 'He beat me,' he responds reproachfully 'That's all?!' In other words, [for the Qadi], beating is a technical situation that exists among all couples and lovers, [as the saying goes]: 'Beating the beloved is like eating raisins.'

"Imagine you're a woman, and in order to manage your affairs you must ride in a 'limousine' with an Indian or Sri Lankan driver... or that you [must] wait for a younger brother to take you to work, or that you [must] bring a man who will learn to drive in your car, and will practice at your expense... because you yourself are not permitted to drive.

"Imagine you're a woman in the 21st century, and you see fatwas [issued] by some contemporary experts in Islamic law dealing with the rules regarding taking the women of the enemy prisoner and having sexual intercourse with them. Moreover, you find someone issuing a fatwa about the rules of taking the women of the enemy prisoner even in times of peace, and you don't know to which enemy women it refers.

"Imagine you're a woman who writes in a newspaper, and every time you write about your [women's] concerns, problems, poverty, unemployment, and legal status, they say about you: 'Never mind her, it's all women's talk.'"

What's crackalackin', y'all? I know it's been long-time-no-post, but I gotta tell you it's a little hard to keep up with the blogging when you're getting a daily enema from infidel Tomahawks. I knew that war is supposed to be hell, but dude -- this one is starting to totally fucking suck. Bigtime.

Case in point: after taking in the nards in Tel Afar last week, let's just say the martyr recruiting has gone a little slow. And speaking of 'a little slow,' can we talk about this latest busload of asswipes from Damascus? Jeez, I thought the Saudis were stupid, but these Syrians take the fucking baclava. Send one of these choads on a simple martydom operation against a Bagdhad collaborator elementary school, and they're like, "Durrrr, a thousand pardons effendi, I got lost! Doyyyy, can I have a martyrdom car with OnStar?" Then you end up having to print out MapQuest directions for them, which totally chews up printer cartridges, and they end up smeared along some desert freeway because they mistook the detonator button for cruise control.

Just between us, it was almost a relief when Team Satan and their Iraqi puppets greased a couple hundred of my lovable losers last week. 'Thinning the herd,' if you know what I mean, and I suppose it probably raised our average insurgent IQ ten points. To 67, maybe. Still, word-of-mouth about this kind of missile strike crap gets around, and it has really screwed our recruiting. Even with the dipshit teenage mosque-rats in Damascus and Riyadh. It's gotten so bad, in fact, that we had to open up a recruiting office in France. I shit you not: reduced to recruiting Le. fucking. Fron-say.

So I'm like, cool, gather up the boys and throw some Pop Secret in the microwave, this ought to be a morale booster. Allah knows we need one. Then everybody gathers around the TV, and they're all like ululating and shooting off the AKs, when C-SPAN2 breaks out of Booknotes for live coverage of the big insurgent offensive.

Have you every been at Friday prayers when somebody just totally rips a gigantic falafel gasbomb while the Imam is cursing the crusaders and Jews? That's what it was like around the TV -- total dead silence. And with every shot of another placard-waving elderly hippie moron, every pachouli drum circle, possibly even more silence. Then, when the speakers started up, so did the uncomfortable buzz.

Luckily, the camera panned to some guy in who was wearing a dynamite belt, which kinda cheered them up momentarily. At that point I didn't have the heart to tell them it was probably fake.

Where was I? Anyhoo, sorry to be such a buzzkill, but what exactly did I do to deserve all this shit? I mean, Zarkman does his five-a-day. Zarkman volunteers at the madrassa. Whenever there's a village homo who needs stoning, Zarkman brings his A-game high heat. And what thanks does Zarkman get? A goddamned infidel peanut gallery of hashpipe trustafarians and skanky Code Pink insugent groupies too unsightly for Sig Eps Pig Night, that's what. (Melanie) -- As I predicted yesterday, a number of commentators have rushed to blame Tony Blair and President Bush for causing yesterday’s carnage in London by having the effrontery to defend their countries against the war declared upon the west. Not that they see it that way, of course — the west’s defence is deemed to be aggression and the Islamist jihad merely an act of self-defence. Thus the ageing revolutionary Tariq Ali writes in the Guardian:

‘The real solution lies in immediately ending the occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. Just because these three wars are reported sporadically and mean little to the everyday lives of most Europeans does not mean the anger and bitterness they arouse in the Muslim world and its diaspora is insignificant. As long as western politicians wage their wars and their colleagues in the Muslim world watch in silence, young people will be attracted to the groups who carry out random acts of revenge. At the beginning of the G8, Blair suggested that "poverty was the cause of terrorism". It is not so. The principal cause of this violence is the violence being inflicted on the people of the Muslim world. And unless this is recognised, the horrors will continue.’

No point telling Tariq Ali or the Guardian’s comment page editor that Iraq, Afghanistan and the West Bank and Gaza were only ‘occupied’ as a defensive move because they were all being used as the front line of attack against the west. For such people, America and the west cannot ever do self-defence because by definition they are colonialist oppressors and therefore their very existence is an act of aggression.

More generally, it is specifically Iraq that is presented as terrorist year zero. The Islamic world was all sweetness and light, it appears, until the Iraq war acted as a recruiting sergeant for al Qaeda. Thus James Reynolds, currently the BBC’s World Affairs correspondent and soon to head the BBC’s bureau in Israel (where he will no doubt continue to shine as an exemplar of the Robert Fisk school of objective journalism) writes of Tony Blair:

‘He is committed to staying in Iraq and to the hope that, in due course, the insurgency there can be overcome and Iraq will develop into a functioning, democratic state backed by its oil riches. Britain therefore remains in the front line, and the option of withdrawing from Iraq and minimising the risk of further attacks is not presently open to British voters. They have taken their decision and must accept the consequences’ (my italics).

Note in particular the pronoun ‘they’. For Reynolds here goes even further than blaming Bush and Blair for creating terror. It’s apparently all the fault of the British people for voting Blair back into power – for which they must ‘accept the consequences’ of being blown to bits on public transport! What an extraordinarily malevolent thing for anyone to write, let alone someone being paid to do so from the pockets of the very people he is so venomously blaming for their own destruction.

The reason why blaming al Qaeda’s terror on the war in Iraq is morally so obtuse goes deeper than the astonishing historical amnesia displayed by those who appear to airbrush from their memory the declaration of war upon the west and associated acts of terror over more than a decade culminating in 9/11. It is because it takes an element of truth and then draws from it a perverse and amoral conclusion. The element of truth is that the west’s actions in Afghanistan and Iraq undoubtedly have exacerbated jihadi fervour and drawn more into the cause. The amoral conclusion is that therefore these actions by the west were wrong.

The truth is that, for countries that believed Afghanistan and Iraq had already inflicted aggressive acts of violence upon the west and were poised to inflict even worse, there was no reasonable or principled alternative but to wage war upon them. The fact that any attempt by the west at self-defence would enrage yet more Islamists was merely the other prong of Morton’s Fork, and illustrated the dilemma posed by all terrorism – if its victims defend themselves, this recruits more to the terrorist cause, but if its victims don’t defend themselves this encourages the terrorists to redouble their attacks because their whole strategy is to demoralise their victims in every way in order to finish them off altogether. This is, after all, the terrible dilemma faced all the time by Israel – a choice between, on the one hand, protecting its citizens from genocidal attack by means which inflame the Arabs in the territories simply because they perceive any self defence by the Israelis as aggression thanks to the warped ideology with which they have been brainwashed, and on the other hand, appeasing terror by a variety of means which are all taken as a sign of weakness and which act therefore as a spur to redouble the terrorist war.

Faced with this intrinsic dilemma posed by terrorism, in which both courses of action have a downside, the only moral choice is to fight terror by the most vigorous means of self-defence possible. This is because while in the short to medium term this may recruit more to the terrorist cause, the alternative route of appeasement is to commit cultural or national suicide. In other words, for free peoples there is no alternative. That is why blaming the continuing war by al Qaeda on the west’s actions in Iraq is such a degraded and disgusting position to take.

The war arrives on British soil

Our thoughts and prayers are with our British friends.

(War on Terror) -- Touching and heartening messages of sympathy and solidarity have been arriving in Britain from across the world after today's horrendous acts of mass murder in London. For me, however, the most poignant are those which call up the heroic image of the British wartime spirit: that stoical, phlegmatic response which is determined to continue as before in the face of unspeakable acts because to do otherwise is to give terror its victory. And yes, there's plenty of that stoicism and quiet heroism around, and it was on display today.

But alas, there is something else, something horrible and warped, also lurking just below the surface. It is the belief that this monstrous event would never have occurred had Tony Blair not taken us to war in Iraq, that that war has created more not less terror and that the British would not have been a target at all had we distanced ourselves from the US. It is a view which has so far only been expressed openly, as far as I am aware, by far left groups such as the SWP. But it is believed far more widely than that, and I expect to see mainstream writers saying as much over the next few days. The great question is which of these rival impulses will define the mood among the British public as a whole. Are Britons still the people of the Blitz, or have they become like Spain after the Madrid bombings?

Our friends in America look at Tony Blair, whom they admire so much for his staunchness in the struggle to defend the west, and they imagine that Britain overall is in that same mould. Well, it is not. It is impossible to overstate the pernicious influence of the viciously anti-American, defeatist, appeasement-minded media and intellectual class, which has quite simply shifted the centre of moral gravity and subjected the country to a remorseless diet of distortions, lies and illogicality.

As a result, Britain has never properly understood or faced up to the nature and scale of the threat it faces, or indeed that it was always a target of attack along with the US. This lack of understanding of the war against the west may well lead the British to blame not al Qaeda but Blair and Bush - the very outcome desired by al Qaeda, and which therefore makes it so much more likely that it will attack countries where the population is perceived to be flaky. Every utterance since 9/11 by an appeasenik, it has to be said, made today's attacks that much more certain.

On the other hand, the British who are so slow to anger are bloody-mindedly warlike when finally roused. How they react to today's obscenity will be a critical turning point in this war. As we grieve for those who have lost their lives or who have sustained terrible injury in today's act of war, we must also hold our breath.

Calif. man, son indicted in Pakistani terror case

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) -- A federal grand jury has indicted a father and son in California on charges of lying during a government probe into their suspected ties to al Qaeda training camps in Pakistan, the U.S. Attorney's office said on Thursday.

The grand jury returned a three-count indictment charging Pakistan-born Umer Hayat and his son Hamid Hayat, both of Lodi, California, with lying to the
FBI, the Sacramento office of the U.S. Attorney said in a statement.

The indictment charged Hamid Hayat with one count of falsely stating he was not involved with a terrorist organization and another count of lying about attending terrorist or jihadist training camps.

"In truth, as the indictment charges, the defendant had attended one or more jihadist terrorist training camps in Pakistan," according to the statement.

The indictment charged that the elder Hayat falsely stated his son did not attend terrorist or jihadist training camps.

According to an FBI affidavit, the younger Hayat told agents he attended an al Qaeda training camp in Pakistan for about six months in 2003 and 2004.

If convicted, they face a maximum of eight years in prison on each charge.

The elder and younger Hayat were previously charged by complaint on June 7. They pleaded not guilty and are being held without bail. They will next appear in court on June 21.

Their lawyers could not immediately be reached for comment.

FDNY Routine Investigation; Middle Eastern Man Caught with Subway Maps

New York (WABC) -- A Middle Eastern man is being questioned after he was caught with others in possession of maps and sketches of the subway system.

Police tell Eyewitness News, the man was caught during a fire department inspection of a previous violation at a bodega at 1173 Broadway in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn at noon yesterday.

The man was part of a group of five or six Middle Eastern men discovered during the follow-up inspection of a faulty sprinker.

When firefighters made a more thorough check of the building, they found drawings of city tunnels and subway entrances on notebook paper. There were also several fake identification belonging to the man taken into custody.

According to the FDNY, the men appeared to be acting suspiciously and attempting to hide the materials, so firefighters called the police.

The other men then fled the building.

Nice friends. How are we suppose to trust Muslims when the so easily abandon their own? No doubt he's just collateral damage in the war for the Ummah.

Some commentators want to show how tolerant and forward-looking they are by describing religious America as "churches, synagogues and mosques."
A true equal-opportunity list would also have included (Buddhist) temples, (Shinto) shrines and (witches') covens to the list. Mosques were added in deference to lobbies like CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) which spends lots of money to make Islam look like it belongs in America.

It doesn't, of course, unless you confuse the public image with its true nature, as some of these commentators have done. Islam is militantly intolerant toward other religions and hostile to the secular state.

Thankfully, it never was part of the American scene.

Nor is it now. It represents a foreign invasion (they call it "immigration") of fanatics who would be happy to witness the subversion or destruction of this country and who are supportive of the terrorists who kill people and break things to achieve that goal.

The great irony is that we send our troops into harm's way to meet this threat in Iraq and elsewhere. But we ignorantly protect and nurture it at home in the name of religious freedom and multiculturalism.

In February, we found out that former NBA star Hakeem Olajuwon has been funneling money to Muslim terrorists. In April, Army Sgt. Hasan Akbar was convicted of murdering U.S. soldiers in Iraq to protect fellow Muslims. Recently, former college professor Sami Al-Arian went on trial for commanding a terrorist cell in Tampa.

Negative news about Muslims in this country is filtered through well-funded and aggressive Muslim defense organizations and the multicultural media. Still, we get enough evidence to question whether Islam is really "a religion of peace," as it claims, or a "clear and present danger," as it seems.

Before my son unexpectedly volunteered for the Marines, I was busy writing my novels and raising my family, and giving little thought to the men and women who guard us. My attitude has changed. I did not choose to change. I was forced to.

When my son was at war in Iraq I felt anger toward my circle of oldest friends — mostly well-off, well-educated people. I didn't know one other parent with a son or daughter in harm's way or even in the military. And no leaders were asking Americans outside the military to make any sacrifices. My son, Marine Sgt. John Schaeffer, recently came home alive from two back-to-back combat tours in the Middle East.

A tall, thin figure slowly unfolded from a beat-up little car. John had driven all night to Boston from a base near Washington, where he had landed the day before. He did not want me to meet him there. "I'll need time to myself," my son said when he called from Kuwait on the way home. He said he wanted "to get my head in gear."

I gave my wife, Genie, a head start. Mother embraced son. "I was so worried," Genie said. John held her as she sobbed. She pulled away to look up again and again to make sure he was really there.

My wife gave me a great gift: time alone with my boy. John was bone-weary and lay stretched on his bed. I lay down next to him and was gripping him the whole time, an arm, a hand; it didn't matter. I just wanted to be certain that the nightmares I'd had about John being killed were lies.

"Once, we were in this convoy," John said. "I spotted this car getting between me and our following vehicle, and we don't like it when anyone gets between us. Then I see these tubes on the front seat that look like RPGs, so I draw a bead on the driver. If he had so much as touched those tubes I would have put one right into his chest."

John dozed a little and then roused himself. "It turned out those were just cardboard tubes. I came within a heartbeat of killing him because of friggin' cardboard tubes. I almost killed an innocent man, Dad."

I kept holding my son, the way I used to when he was 2 and crawled into our bed after a scary dream. I asked John if he'd rather sleep than talk, and he said there would be time for sleep later. "My record was two hours short of five days straight with no sleep. Twenty-hour days were par for the course."

With the relief flooding over, under and around me came an incredible exhaustion. I dozed, soothed by his voice. It was the first good sleep I'd had in months. I woke and John was asleep next to me.

I left my Marine asleep in his room. I poked my head through his door every few minutes. At one point, I found myself kneeling by his bed watching him breathe. I found myself praying and crying for all the fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, husbands and wives of those who were not coming home. For the first time in my life, I was weeping for strangers.

There are Americans on their knees next to fresh graves from Arlington to Bozeman, from Tampa to Fargo. There are young men and women learning to walk again and receiving skin grafts for horrible burns.

Before my son went to war I never would have shed tears for them. My son humbled me. My son connected me to my country. He taught me that our men and women in uniform are not the "other."

They are our sons, daughters, brothers and sisters. Sometimes shedding tears for strangers is a sacred duty. Sometimes it's all we can do.

The rallies in Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Indonesia, Malaysia and elsewhere followed an admission Thursday by U.S. investigators that Islam's holy book was mishandled at Guantanamo.

But American officials said it was often inadvertent and denied that any Qurans were flushed down a toilet, as Newsweek magazine had reported in a now-retracted article.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A series of car bombings and other attacks in Iraq on Monday killed at least 43 people and wounded dozens, Iraqi officials said.

Also Monday, the U.S. military announced the deaths of four American troops in three separate incidents a day earlier.

Two car bombs killed at least 15 civilians and wounded at least 20 Monday night in the northern city of Tal Afar, a government official told CNN.

Car bombs also struck two Shiite Muslim areas Monday in Iraq, killing at least 12 people and wounding more than 130 at a Baghdad restaurant and a mosque south of the capital.

The Tal Afar attack, which happened about 7 p.m., targeted a tribal gathering at the home of Sheik Hassan Bakdash, who was celebrating his surviving an assassination attempt a couple of days ago, said Khosra Goran, deputy governor of Nineveh province.

He described Bakdash as one of the most influential figures in the region. The Bakdash tribe is Shiite and is allied with Kurdish parties, mainly the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, he said.

Two car bombs exploded near the site of the gathering, with the majority of the casualties coming in the second detonation, Goran said. It was not immediately known if they were set off by suicide bombers.

Baghdad Mosque Closings Spark Weapons Shortage

2005-05-21 (Scrappleface) -- Since Friday's announcement by a Sunni Muslim cleric that Baghdad's Sunni Mosques would close for three days to protest killings blamed on Iraqi security forces, consumers said they're struggling to find alternate sources for weaponry.

"My children and I stood on line at a back-alley dealer for seven hours just to buy mortar rounds," said one unnamed local resident. "My uncle just called and he's got one rocket-propelled grenade left, and has completely exhausted his family's supply of roadside bombs."

Indeed, industry sources report that the price of all kinds of small armaments jumped 73 percent within minutes of the announcement that the mosques would close.

"When you get an improvised explosive device at the mosque, you can rely on the quality," said one unnamed regular customer. "But a lot of the stuff you buy on the street is shoddy work that might send you to Allah before you get to the crowd of infidels. I think we're going to see a lot of second-rate martyrdom work until the mosques re-open."

6 Al-Qaeda-linked militants killed in Philippines

Zamboanga(Agence France-Presse) -- Soldiers killed six members of the Al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf Muslim extremist group in a clash on Saturday on the southern Philippine island of Jolo, military officials said.

"At least six Abu Sayyaf terrorists were killed by soldiers and we recovered the bodies and their weapons," said Brigadier General Alexander Aleo, head of an anti-terror task force on the island.

Two Marines were also wounded in the clash, Aleo said.

An undetermined number of Abu Sayyaf were also wounded in the battle, said Colonel Juancho Sabban, head of the Marine force on the island.

A Marine reconnaissance force crept up on the camp of the gang led by commander Radulan Sahiron in the jungles of Patikul town, said Sabban.

"Many of them were still sleeping and were caught by surprise by our attacking special operation team," Sabban added.

The attack was part of continuing operations against Sahiron's group, which had stepped up its attacks on government forces in February.

The Abu Sayyaf has been linked by both Washington and Manila to the Al-Qaeda terror network led by Osama bin Laden

The group has engaged in bombings and kidnapping-for-ransom attacks against Christians and foreigners in the southern Philippines for more than a decade.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A key al Qaeda operative was killed earlier this week in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region, two knowledgeable sources told CNN Friday.

They said a CIA-operated Predator drone aircraft fired a missile, killing Haithem al-Yemeni, whom U.S. intelligence had been tracking for some time.

There had been hope he might lead authorities to Osama bin Laden or other top al Qaeda leaders, the sources said.

ABC News first reported the Predator attack, saying it happened in Pakistan near the Afghan border. Pakistan Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad told CNN al-Yemeni was not killed in Pakistan.

Both sources declined to be further identified due to the sensitivity of the matter. One pointed out the report could create political problems for the Pakistani government, which has been quietly cooperating with U.S. efforts to round up or kill al Qaeda operatives.

ABC News reported al-Yemeni was in line to replace Abu Faraj al-Libbi as al Qaeda's global operations chief. Al-Libbi, the No. 3 man in bin Laden's terror network, was captured by Pakistani authorities last week in the frontier along the border with Afghanistan.

8 dead with Ebola-like symptoms in Congo

BRAZZAVILLE, Congo (Reuters) -- Republic of Congo officials said on Thursday eight people had died over the past two weeks with symptoms similar to those suffered by victims of the Ebola virus, raising fears of a new outbreak of the disease.

Health Minister Alphonse Gando said people should not panic but should avoid contact with suspected patients and dead bush animals, which are thought to transmit the virus to humans.

"Since April 27, the health district of Etoumbi, in the Cuvette-Ouest region, has recorded seven deaths and three patients with clinical symptoms that make the Ebola virus a strong suspect as the cause of the deaths and the illness," Gando said in a statement.

He said another person who left Etoumbi to go to Mbomo had also died after showing the same symptoms. Etoumbi and Mbomo are respectively 400 miles (640 kilometers) and 435 miles (700 kilometers) north of the capital Brazzaville.

There is no known cure for Ebola, which is passed on by infected body fluids and kills between 50 and 90 percent of victims, depending on the strain.

The disease damages blood vessels and can cause bleeding, diarrhea and shock. Its worst outbreak, in 1995, killed more than 250 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

More al-Qaida suspects seized in terror raids across Pakistan

(The Guardian) -- Pakistani soldiers swooped on two dozen suspected al-Qaida fighters after interrogating the man believed to be the terror network's third in command, officials said yesterday.

Abu Faraj al-Libbi, captured this week, is thought to be al-Qaida's operations chief, and security forces in Pakistan said he could also provide leads to the whereabouts of the network's leader, Osama bin Laden, and his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri. Both are believed to slip frequently between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Yesterday, raids in Lahore, the capital of the eastern province of Punjab, Peshawar, capital of North-West Frontier Province, and the Bajaur tribal area, resulted in the arrest of more than 20 other al-Qaida suspects, as well as the seizure of guns and grenades.

Analysts said the success of the operations justified Pakistan's assertion that it was winning the war against terrorism. "From the arrests it looks as if Pakistan has been quite successful in containing al-Qaida activity on its own soil," said Khalid Mahmud of the Institute of Regional Studies in Islamabad.

(The Guardian) -- The man thought to be al-Qaida's head of global operations and the mastermind behind an attempt to assassinate the president of Pakistan was captured by the country's troops after a fierce gun battle in the lawless tribal belt close to the Afghan border, officials said last night.

In an operation described by George Bush as a "a critical victory in the war on terror", Libyan Abu Faraj al-Libbi was seized with another "foreigner" after a fierce firefight on the outskirts of Mardan, 30 miles north-east of Peshawar, the capital of the rugged North West Frontier Province.

President Bush said Libbi was "a major facilitator and a chief planner" for Osama bin Laden and that his arrest "removes a dangerous enemy". It recently emerged that US forces have trained Pakistani helicopter pilots and army commandos in tactics to tackle al-Qaida's mountain refuges in the country's tribal area.

Pakistani authorities, who had said they felt they were closing in on Libbi, were quick to capitalise on what they believe is the most important terrorist to be captured since the arrest of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, al-Qaida's purported number three, two years ago in Karachi, Pakistan's financial capital.

Libbi allegedly took over as al-Qaida's operational chief after Mohammed's capture. The information minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, told reporters that Libbi, who was seized on Monday, was "a very big catch" and hinted that Pakistani troops had picked up the trail of Bin Laden. "We will be looking at all his links. Our forces are moving towards the right direction."

Mr Libbi is known as a computer, electronics, and communications expert. When arrested he was said to be carrying satellite phones and a high frequency wireless, and reports said that he had been in contact with al-Qaida cells in the US and south-east Asia.

FORT BRAGG, North Carolina (AP) -- A military jury sentenced a soldier to death Thursday for a grenade and rifle attack on his own comrades during the opening days of the Iraq invasion, a barrage that killed two officers and that prosecutors said was driven by religious extremism.

Sgt. Hasan Akbar, who gave a brief, barely audible apology hours earlier, stood at attention between his lawyers as the verdict was delivered. He showed no emotion.

He could have been sentenced to life in prison with or without parole for the early morning March 2003 attack, which also wounded 14 fellow members of the Army's 101st Airborne Division at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait.

The 15-person military jury, which last week took just two and a half hours to convict Akbar of premeditated murder and attempted premeditated murder, deliberated for about seven hours in the sentencing phase. After jurors reached a verdict, they voted on whether to reconsider the decision after one juror asked that they do so.

Remains of U.S. troops returned from Vietnam

TAMPA, Florida(AP) -- The remains of a Navy medic and three Marines killed in a Vietnamese firefight nearly four decades ago have been identified and returned to the United States for funerals.

Navy medic Malcolm "Mac" Miller, who was killed less than a month into his second tour in Vietnam, and two other team members will be buried next month at Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon announced Monday.

The funeral date -- May 10 -- marks the 38th anniversary of their deaths.

"Without having his remains actually here, there's always been that mystery of 'Is he still alive?"' said Miller's niece Dana Fisher, of Madison, Georgia. "This is a new beginning, because we know we can kind of go on with our lives and know that he's here and he has a home."

Families of the Americans reported missing after the 1967 clash with dozens of Viet Cong soldiers were told they were dead but that their bodies could not be recovered because of heavy fire.

Three surviving Marines were rescued by helicopter. A helicopter pilot, Capt. Paul T. Looney, was shot to death while hovering 20 feet above ground and was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. Survivors reported Miller was firing at the enemy when he was killed by a Viet Cong grenade.

The battleground has been surveyed by several joint U.S.-Vietnamese teams since Vietnamese citizens offered the first evidence of remains to U.S. officials in 1991, and two excavation teams found the remains.

The remains have been identified as Miller; Marine 2nd Lt. Heinz Ahlmeyer Jr. of Pearl River, New York; Marine Sgt. James N. Tycz of Milwaukee; and Marine Lance Cpl. Samuel A. Sharp Jr. of San Jose, California. Sharp was buried Saturday in San Jose.

A total of 748 Americans listed as missing in Vietnam have been accounted for since the end of the war.

Akbar Convicted of Murder in Grenade Attack

Hasan Akbar (search), 34, now faces a possible death penalty, which the same 15-member jury will consider at a hearing that begins Monday.

Prosecutors say Akbar told investigators he launched the attack because he was concerned U.S. troops would kill fellow Muslims in Iraq. They said he coolly carried out the attack to achieve "maximum carnage" on his comrades in the 101st Airborne Division (search).

Missile Fire Downs Chopper in Iraq; 11 Die

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Insurgents brought down a Russian-made helicopter carrying 11 civilians with missile fire north of the capital Thursday and said they captured and shot to death the lone crew member who survived. The dead from the crash included six American bodyguards for U.S. diplomats.

The chartered flight was believed to be the first civilian aircraft shot down in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion two years ago.

"Heroes of the Islamic Army downed a transport aircraft belonging to the army of the infidels and killed its crew and those on board in the regions of al-Taji north of Baghdad," the Islamic Army in Iraq group said in a written statement posted on the Web with a video purporting to show the shooting of the survivor.

"One of the crew members was captured and killed," the statement said.

In the video, which shows burning wreckage and two charred bodies, militants come across an injured man wearing a blue flightsuit lying tall grass. "It's broken," the survivor says in accented English, apparently referring to his leg, as militants - unseen except in brief glances - tell him to stand up. "Weapons? Weapons?" the gunmen ask him in Arabic and English as he stands uneasily.

They tell him, "Go!", and he starts to hobble away, holding his hands up toward them. The gunmen then open fire, shouting "Allahu akbar," or "God is great," with the bullets hitting his body. They fire more shots into his body on the ground.

(Jihad Watch) -- Islam is a religion with a very political agenda. The ultimate goal of Islam is to rule the world. But what kind of government an Islamic state would have?

It certainly won’t be democratic. Islam is not compatible with democracy. Amir Taheri, an Iranian born author/journalist in a debate on Islam and democracy argued that in fact the word democracy does not exist in any of the languages spoken by Muslims. “To understand a civilization,” Taheri said, “it is important to understand its vocabulary. If it was not on their tongues it is likely that it was not on their minds either.”

Democracy implies equality. But equality is unacceptable in Islam. Un-believers cannot be equal to believers and women are not equal to men. Even the non-Muslims are not deemed to be equal. The People of the Book (Jews and Christians) are accepted as second class citizens and allowed to live in an Islamic state provided they pay the protection tax; Jizyah. But the pagans, atheists and idolaters are not regarded as fully humans. According to the Quran, the idolaters are to be killed wherever they are found. (9:5)

In the April 9, 2002 issue, The Wall Street Journal published the concept of blood money in Saudi Arabia. If a person has been killed or caused to die by another, the latter has to pay blood money or compensation, as follow.

25,000 riyals if a Christian woman
6,666 riyals if a Hindu man
3,333 riyals if a Hindu woman

According to this hierarchy, a Muslim man's life is worth 33 times that of a Hindu woman. This hierarchy is based on the Islamic definition of human rights and is rooted in the Quran and Sharia (Islamic law). How can we talk of democracy when the concept of equality in Islam is inexistent?

It will take your help . For the most part politicians and media types are cowards who take the path of least resistance and are not interested in exposing that which interferes with their agenda. They are a slack jawed bunch of lazy glad handers who get by on as little information as possible and assume you know less than they.

We are going to have to do it one talking head at a time until they start speaking the truth about the threat. You will know the tide is turning when they start calling Islamic killers good Muslims and fundamental Muslims. You will know a huge step has been made when they report of Taqiyya and Dhimmitude.

You will know when Muslims start targeting those who speak out here in America to silence them as their sand castle falls apart. As it is exposed as a maniacal dream of a madman, a hate group, totalitarianism.

It is a worthwhile effort.

American Hostage taken in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- An Indiana businessman whose firm works in Iraq was shown Wednesday in an insurgent video, surrounded by masked militants as he asked his family and friends to urge the United States to negotiate with the "Iraqi national resistance."

The video of Jeffrey Ake appeared on the Arabic-language TV network Al-Jazeera. The video showed Ake sitting behind a desk while three militants stood nearby, their weapons pointed at him.

He was holding his U.S. passport and his Indiana driver's license in his left hand. In his other hand, he held a photograph, apparently a family portrait, showing him along with a woman and three children.

BAGHDAD, Iraq March 22 (New York Times) -- Ordinary Iraqis rarely strike back at the insurgents who terrorize their country. But just before noon on Tuesday, a carpenter named Dhia saw a troop of masked gunmen with grenades coming toward his shop here and decided he had had enough.

As the gunmen emerged from their cars, Dhia and his young relatives shouldered their Kalashnikov rifles and opened fire, the police and witnesses said. In the fierce gun battle that followed, three of the insurgents were killed, and the rest fled just after the police arrived. Two of Dhia's nephews and a bystander were wounded, the police said.

NEW YORK (AP) -- A female professor led an Islamic prayer service Friday with men in the congregation despite sharp criticism from Muslim religious leaders in the Middle East who complained that it violated centuries of tradition.

Amina Wadud, a professor of Islamic studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, led the service at Synod House at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, an Episcopal church in Manhattan.

Some Islamic scholars have said they were aware of a few other mixed-gender prayer meetings led by women, mostly in the West, but they are rare.

"The issue of gender equality is a very important one in Islam, and Muslims have unfortunately used highly restrictive interpretations of history to move backward," Wadud said before the service. "With this prayer service we are moving forward. This single act is symbolic of the possibilities within Islam."

About 80 to 100 people attended the service, and the group appeared evenly divided between men and women. Most women wore the traditional Muslim headscarf and long, flowing robes.

The event was meant to draw attention to the inequality for women in Muslim spiritual life and Muslim life in general, said Asra Q. Nomani, an author and former Wall Street Journal reporter who is the lead organizer of the prayer.

"We are standing up for our rights as women in Islam. We will no longer accept the back door or the shadows," Nomani said. "At the end of the day, we'll be leaders in the Muslim world."

There was a brief outburst from some protesters outside the building at the start of the service, but they were kept from entering by a heavy police presence. One young U.S.-born, bearded activist, who only gave his name as Nussrah, said Wadud was not representative of Muslims.

"She is tarnishing the whole Islamic faith," he said.

Yvonne Haddad, a professor of Islamic studies at Georgetown University, said the service goes against the religion's traditions.

"It's a time when people can get away with anything," Haddad said. "When people have a breakdown of traditional leadership, largely because the U.S. government has delegitimized the Muslim leadership in America, American Muslims are searching for new leaders more able to address their daily needs.

"People in America think they are going to be the vanguards of change," Haddad said. "But for Arab Muslims in the Middle East, American Muslims continue to be viewed on the margins of the faith."

And why should Americans give a rat's hairy ass about Islam's religious traditions? It's not like Islam respects any other religion's traditions. Indonesia ousts Christian groups

(The Washington Times) -- Christian groups and some other private relief agencies are being asked to halt their work in the tsunami-ravaged Indonesian province of Aceh and leave the area by March 26, Indonesia's defense minister said yesterday.

The decision likely will target Western and smaller church groups as the government moves to tighten control over reconstruction work in Aceh, the home of a decades-old separatist insurgency.

"We want each of the relief agencies to be transparent in their programs: Some of them are not clear about their mandates," said Juwono Sudarsono during an interview in a Washington hotel.

"Aceh is mostly Muslim, and some church groups from Australia and the United States are too eager to be there and do their part," he said.

Mr. Sudarsono said his government had set March 26 some weeks ago as a target date for moving from the disaster-relief phase of post-tsunami operations to the reconstruction phase.

With that goal in sight, he said, the overwhelming presence of U.S. and Western relief agencies could make members of the local Islamic community uncomfortable, adding that they would be replaced by Pakistani and Saudi Arabian workers....

(Front Page Magazine) -- In academia today, "academic freedom" protects those who compare the 9/11 victims to Nazi higher ups, but it does not cover a professor with the temerity to challenge the beliefs of Muslim students in a single encounter which constituted, in the words of his boss, an "assault on their dignity."

Thomas Klocek, a part-time adjunct professor at DePaul University, knows this first-hand; he was unlucky enough to fall on the wrong side of the political correctness fence.

With no current income and facing the possibility of losing the health insurance he desperately needs for a serious kidney condition, he has decided to go public with his fight. Klocek considers his case a matter of academic freedom; the school insists it's a health issue. The Muslim students who had the 20-30 minute run-in with him that precipitated his suspension charge racism.

Although every party involved frames the overall matter differently, multiple conversations with each side reveal that the facts are what are least in dispute.

Here's what we do know. After 14 years of continuous employment at the Chicago-based college, Klocek was suspended with pay for the rest of the fall quarter last September, and then stayed suspended - this time without pay - through the winter quarter.

Despite having, by all accounts, an unblemished record during that span, DePaul summarily dismissed him from his duties after the school learned that he had "insulted" and "demeaned" several Muslim students at a campus fair for extracurricular groups.

Terrorist Website Drops Dirty Bomb

JEDDAH (Arab News) -- A terrorist group has published a do-it-yourself plan to make a dirty bomb on its Internet site. Named Alma'sadah Al-Jihadiah, the site is run by a group whose aim is to promote and propagate terror activities in the region. A member of the group, calling himself Abu Al-Harith Al-Sawahiri the Mujahid Sheikh, provides a step-by-step instruction of making a dirty bomb, starting from tear gas canisters to higher-grade bombs, including those using uranium, on the site.

30 Muslim workers fired for praying on job at Dell

Nashville (Dhimmi Watch) -- Anti-dhimmitude at Dell. Why? Well, it would be perfectly clear to everyone that a Christian who left his work station during work hours to go to church should be held responsible. This is not a question of the infringement of rights unless these employees had arranged with Dell for a work schedule that included time off for prayers, and then Dell reneged. But I doubt that was the case. Otherwise, they contracted with Dell to be on the job from a certain hour to another, and they should hold up their end of the deal.

Faced with that difficult decision, Abdi H. Nuur removed his employee badge and walked away last month from his forklift driver's job at Dell Computer's Nashville plant. He and 29 other Somali Muslims say they were forced to choose between their faith and their employment.

confrontation that pits American-style production quotas against Islam's requirement that its adherents pray daily when the sun sets.

MOSUL, Iraq (CNN) -- A suicide bombing at a Shiite Muslim funeral procession killed at least 47 people Thursday in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, hospital officials said.

The explosion also wounded 27 others, the officials said, near the Shahedayein Mosque in central Mosul's al-Ta'meen district.

A U.S. military statement said preliminary reports indicated 25 to 30 people were killed and more than 100 wounded.

"As we were inside the mosque, we saw a ball of fire and heard a huge explosion," Tahir Abdullah Sultan, 45, told The Associated Press. "After that blood and pieces of flesh were scattered around the place."

Another witness, Adnan al-Bayati, told AP, "After the cloud of smoke and dust dispersed, we saw the scattered bodies of the fallen and smelled gunpowder."

Non Muslims need not Apply, Saudis Say

Washington DC ( Saudi Institute) -- The Saudi Government said today it won’t allow non Muslims to seek its citizenship, Al-Watan newspaper reported today.

Naser Al-Hanaya, Ministry of Interior Assistant for Civil Affairs, told Al-Watan that the citizenship law amended October 18 of last year won’t allow any non Muslims living in the country to seek Saudi nationality.

Al-Hanaya said "Islam is the religion and non Muslims won’t be allowed citizenship."

The US has been involved in negotiation with the Saudi government for two years on admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The nationality law was amended as part of these negotiations.

The Saudi government bars all non Muslims including Christians, Jews, Hindus, and Buddhists from practicing their faith publicly in Saudi Arabia. It also bars them from celebrating all national and cultural holidays such as Independence Day, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Russian military kills Chechen separatist leader

MOSCOW (Kansas City Star) -- Aslan Maskhadov, leader of Chechnya's decade-long separatist conflict against Russian rule, was killed Tuesday as Russian commandos closed in on his bunker near the breakaway republic's capital, Russian and pro-Moscow Chechen authorities said.

Russian television showed images of Maskhadov's shirtless body splayed out on a concrete floor, his head in a pool of blood. How he died remained unclear. Kremlin-backed Chechen leaders said that in the midst of a clash between Russian special forces and Maskhadov's men in the village of Tolstoi-Yurt, a bodyguard standing next to Maskhadov accidentally shot and killed the rebel leader.

"We intended to take him alive," Chechen Deputy Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov told the Russian news agency, Interfax. But the Russian military said Maskhadov was killed when soldiers blew up the bunker.

Throngs rally in Pakistan on rape victim’s behalf

MULTAN, Pakistan (AP) -- Thousands of women rallied in eastern Pakistan on Monday to demand justice and protection for a woman who said she was gang-raped at the direction of a village council, after a court ordered the release of her alleged attackers.

The victim, Mukhtar Mai, also attended the rally in Multan, a major city in the eastern province of Punjab.

Waving signs and chanting, the demonstrators, many of them from nearby villages, joined the rally. Organizer Farzana Bari said more than 3,000 women were at the event.

“We will fight for justice for Mukhtar Mai,” the women chanted during the rally, while others carried placards reading: “Give protection to Mukhtar Mai.”

Placing the missile back in a wooden box beside him, the teacher then passes a wrapped lump of plastic explosive around the class, sparking a flurry of grasping hands. "Come on! It’s my turn," hisses one impatient young boy at his neighbour.

So begins lesson one of jihad for juniors, the newest recruits to Iraq’s insurgency. After nearly two years of struggle which has decimated their adult ranks, resistance commanders are grooming a fresh generation of child soldiers to carry on the fight.

Islamic terrorists seeking to recruit women: report

ROME (Daily Times) -- Islamic extremists are looking to recruit women and are trying to do so mainly through the Internet, according to an Italian intelligence report.

The document, presented to parliament Thursday, gathers evidence from the second half of 2004. The report said the Internet has established itself as a fundamental means of recruiting extremists.

The recruits, the report adds, “are now also being sought among the female audience,” and an Internet journal has been created especially with the purpose of attracting female warriors.

Female terrorists have most notably taken part in a theater siege in Moscow in October 2002, in which they and their male comrades threatened to blow up the building.

Russian special forces stormed the theater after three days and 129 hostages were killed, most by the effects of the gas used to knock out the assailants. In Italy, recruitment is also carried out by what the report calls “wandering imams” _ extremists who originally come from Pakistan and are believed to be responsible for turning mosques into recruiting centers as well as helping militants from abroad infiltrate the country. The 103-page report also singled out attacks on Italian interests in Iraq and elsewhere abroad and kidnappings in the war-ravaged country as the main risks posed by Islamic terrorism against Italy.

The risks mainly come from militants who fled the Iraqi city of Fallujah, an insurgent stronghold that U.S. and Iraqi forces assaulted in November.

But I can appreciate the fact that some of you still go to university, and might need some half-academic-sounding evidence to placate your half-witted senile obsolete third-worldist professors. So here goes.

Given that Arabness is an exclusivist concept, one cannot identify with it as an added identity without being impelled to relinquish pre-existing ones. Given that Arabism and Arabness have this fiendish knack for denying peoples their specific cultural and historical references, one is impelled to out-and-out repudiate any hints of this imputed, contrived Arabness.

But who are the “Arabs”, and what is the “Arab World”?
This is a thorny question to which there isn’t one clearly defined or satisfying answer. I can understand that the labels “Arab World” or “Arab” can be soothing to some who believe that Arab nationalism or Arabness are valid identity markers; but the terms themselves are loaded, misleading, ambiguous, abstract, and false, not to mention grotesque oversimplifications of a political ethnic and cultural realm that is anything but uniform and homogeneous, let alone exclusively Arab (to merit a comprehensive “Arab” label)..

Berlin (Deutsche Welle) -- On a cold afternoon this week, Hatin Sürücü gazed gravely from a large poster behind a bus stop lined with flowers, cards and candles.

To the people who came to this bleak part of Berlin's Tempelhof district for Tuesday's solemn vigil -- called not by the city's Muslim community but a gay and lesbian organization -- the image of the young woman in a headscarf, a baby in her arms, was familiar from newspapers and television. A few notes at the memorial read, "Hope you get a better deal in your next life," and "Live a life on your own terms."

"It's a scandal," said Ali K, 33. "All Muslims in Berlin should take to the streets to protest." Yasemin, 22, said, "It's horrific. All Hatin was doing was leading her life the way she wanted."

But it was a choice she paid for with her life. On Feb. 7, 23-year-old Hatin Sürücü was gunned down at the aforementioned bus stop. She died on the spot. Shortly afterwards, three of her brothers -- who reportedly had long been threatening her -- were arrested. Investigators suspect it was a so-called "honor killing," given the fact that Sürücü's ultra-conservative Turkish-Kurdish family strongly disapproved of her modern and "un-Islamic" life....

At Berlin's Turkish-dominated neighborhood near Kottbusser Tor in the Kreuzberg district, 17-year-old Erkan, a high school student of Turkish origin, was divided about the issue. "I'm not saying you should murder, but Hatin's lifestyle just didn't fit the way traditional Muslims live," he said.

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) -- Australia's foreign minister said Saturday that terrorists could be planning to attack foreign aid workers in Indonesia's tsunami-ravaged Aceh province.

"New information (has been) received by the government concerning possible terrorist planning for attacks against foreigners involved in relief efforts in Aceh or other areas of northern Sumatra," Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer said in a statement.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Saturday revised its travel advice for Indonesia, warning that Australians could endanger themselves by traveling to northern Sumatra island, where Aceh is located.
